New to king snakes

janome Dec 31, 2010 06:39 PM

So I have this high white male cal king. Not sure how old he is. Probably 2010 summer baby. Anyway "Snowflake" has a habit of pooing on me when I get him out. Tries like crazy to get away, rattles his tail. Hasn't tried to bite me though. That's good. Question is the usual... "Do they calm down eventually?" Guess I'm used to my corn snakes being so calm an not pooing on me when I handle them. Well, was just wondering what peoples experience with king snakes have been like. Thank you. The only other king snake I had was couple years ago. I bought a black with white strip baby an he got out of his cage, made it outside where we found him after he had been run over. so not to fond of kings but Snowflake is just so pretty I had to get him.

Most get over it, some dont. Just keep handling him and show him he has nothing to fear. The whole musking and pooping thing is fear related. He is trying to disuade you from eating him LOL!! Keep gentling handling him and it should go away. However, be aware he may do it whenever startled more than a corn would.
