Possible Soft shell.....help!

chinahause Sep 27, 2003 09:22 AM

Hey, I have a baby RES, which is about 6 months old and the plates on the back of his shell are still kind of soft...should I be worrying about soft shell? Right now he is fed Nutrafin Max turtle food in addition to Zoo Med's Hatchling Aquatic Turtle food. He eats vorcaiously with the healthiest appetite I have ever seen. I dunno what to think, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!

Hi,

The scutes on the very back by the tail are usually a little
flexible so I would not worry. Check the bottom of the shell to see if it feels hard. As long as you have a UVB source and
you are feeding it correctly you will notice as it gets older,
that area will get solid also.

Cutos for noticing that

Linda
