To Bob regarding equate bedding spray?

TonyT89 Jan 03, 2011 11:22 PM

Hey Bob,

Thanks for the suggestion with the equate bedding spray but I just want to make sure I do everything right. Just a few more questions.

I will look for it in the pharmacy section, but do I spray it in the cage with the paper towel and the water dish and hide spot or just the cage with the paper towel? How long should I ventilate the cage before placing the snake back in the cage? Also, as for the snake do I place him in a container filled with water mixed in with dawn dish soap and salt? Sorry for the flurry of questions but these guys are nuisances...

Put your snake to soak in plain warm water first so it will have time to drink if it wants to.

Lightly spray enclosure, no water bowl, no PT. You don't need to soak it just mist it, let dry

Add 1-2 cups of your soap/salt solution to the tub, how much depends on the size of the tub, shoebox 1 cup, sweater tub 2 cups. Let snake soak another 15 minutes.

By now the enclosure should be dry, add PT, water bowl etc.

Remove snake from bath, dry off with towel put in tub.

Repeat baths weekly, repeat enclosure treatment every 3 weeks or sooner if you need to really clean the enclosure.

What BigTattoo said is right on. I would like to add, spray the area all around the cage as well. Like the floor, carpets, table or counter cage is sitting in, etc. Mites travel in a straight line and will climb right up over the wall of the tank. Spray under the cage, too.

What soap do you use, and what percentage mix with salt? One cup seems like alot for a shoebox-sized snake. Or am I reading this incorrectly? Thanks for any help.

To 1 gallon of water add 1 TBSP liquid dish soap like Dawn and 1 TBSP salt. Mix thoroughly and add 1-2 cups of this solution to the bath water your snake should already be soaking in. You want to be sure to give your snake 15-20 minutes to soak in plain water because most times they will take a big drink. You don't want them drinking the soap/salt solution.
