Young hog with RI...need help

zeus1228 Jan 04, 2011 09:51 PM

So, my '10 hog female definitely has an RI and is quite little (25 grams tops). I'm planning on taking her to the vet tomorrow, but I'm concerned with how little she is. How do they dose such small hogs? Does anyone have any experience with young hogs like her getting an RI? She's my only female at the moment and I'm really concerned. Any advice or expeiences would help me greatly.

Thanks,
Stephen

The first step is to remove all sources of humidity. Replace the bedding with fresh dry bedding. If she needs water let her drink and then remove the bowl. Temps also play an important role. My babies are all kept at 82 degrees. Anything less than 76 can make it worse.
Sometimes when hognoses are going into a shed, thier nostrils can clog and they breathe through thier mouths. Is she going through a shed?

Yes she is going through a shed, but it kinda sounds like she is weezing and making clicking noises while she breathes.

So she shed last night and now sounds and acts perfectly normal...like nothing ever happened.
