Silkworms?

maggie* Sep 27, 2003 11:02 AM

Hi all,
How do silkworms rate compared to crickets? I've got a 5 month old beardie who finds wax worms too rich (they make her poop runny) so she's really only getting crickets. Would silkworms be an appropriate substitute for crickets or would I need to continue to supplement her diet with crickets?
Cheers!
maggie.

Yes, silk worms are actually very good for beardies. One person I know of feeds them instead of crickets without any problems. Reason why I think it's not done more is because of the price of them, and how much dragons can eat. Silk worms can cause runny stools too. I noticed that most worms if fed to much will do this as well. I personally offer a wide variety of live feeders, and for babies and juvis crickets are the staple cause of the large amounts the dragons eat, and also the ease of gut loading the crickets. Whatever the crickets eat the dragons eat as well.
