Looking good Tim...nice and healthy..the female is almost half the size of the mom...she is probably 36 to 40 inches and the male somewhere around 45 to 48. I don't measure them..
Is the male eating well? it did get a little slower start.

Hey Jimmy,

Tht male eats every time I offer him food (every 3 to 5 days) without any scenting or "tricks." I've hatched out a few tiny, slow starters over the years and once they get going, they do just as well as any other corn. It looks like that was the case with this male.

The female bairds i got from you is off feed right now. It is a bit frustrating. Was eating well. Went 20 days without then ate and is now on 20 days again. still a healthy weight and super active. Shrugs. i hate when snakes dont eat.

Did you get the Baird's from me or from Jimmy?

At any rate, I'd brumate it if it's not eating. I have a pair of 2010 Russian Rat Snakes that I would have liked to have kept up throughout the winter, but they stopped feeding a couple months ago, so now I'm cooling them.

Sorry i didnt specify. i got her from you tim and shes doing great. I do not breed and i have never cooled a snake. What do you suggest i do? i dont have access to the right temps to brumate.

I'd check some temperatures around the house. It is often cooler on the floor near a wall that faces the outside. If you've checked temperatures and you have nothing 60 degrees or below, you might want to see if anyone would mind storing the snake for you. It would only be for 5-6 weeks. Most of my colubrids come out of cooling in mid-February.

I think i might be able to figure something out. Is there anything i need to do preparation wise? and is a day/night photo period important during brumation?

You can either cool them with no light or with reduced (natural) light cycling. Often the reason why they stop eating is because daylengths shorten and this triggers a stop in feeding.
