Uro Problem?

dragonmlv Sep 27, 2003 11:53 AM

Hi,
I have had a young male mali uro, he's about 8 inches, for a year. This may sound dumb, but I just noticed a small bump on his lower back, and I can't remember if it was there before or not. I try to take him out everyday, so it's not like I haven't seen him in awhile. The bump isn't big, barely noticible unless you feel it. Is this normal, or is it something I should be worried about? If anyone has any info please let me know.
Thanks,
Sarah

Hum, I have never heard of that before...nor seen it. My uros do not have any bump on their backs. Mayeb someone else on the fourm has seen it. If not i would take him to a vet. But most likely they will not be able to do something for it.
Good luck

if it's what I think it is, it looks like a mole, a little smaller and not dark brown. My Uro had one, then he began to shed and it's not there anymore. I wish i had a pic, but I dont. Keep and eye on it, he could be getting ready to shed.

I've heard of but have not seen uromastyx getting lumps along the spine area that are in fact calcium deposits. It seems that if uro's are fed an insufficiant diet high in cacium binding foods like spinach or broccoli, crickets etc etc over long periods their body will begin to store calcium which looks like bumps along the sides of the spine. Supposedly this condition clears up after awhile if the diet is corrected.

I'd check the diet (visit deer fern farms web site for great diet recommendations) and if the diet is incorrect try feeding the proper diet. Give it a month or so feeding the correct food items to see if the lump dissapears. If your diet is correct then I'd get him to a vet.

Hope this helped some and good luck,

Joe
