baby kingsnake setup

bigtman Jan 08, 2011 06:38 PM

Here is my setup for my babies. the white hide is a pvc 4" cap. I drilled a 1" hole in the side. I put aspen inside. The hot side has a half log. (I like these because it help with shedding the skin sticks to the bark.) and a water bowl. The humid box has cypress in it. Please let me know what you think.
Thanks

Yeah, that should work okay Tom. But make absolutely SURE that lid is EXTREMELY gap free and absolutely secure as can be, or else....bye bye snake..LOL!

Doug The lid on the humidity box is very tight. As for the tray it's all the way up to the top with maybe 1/16th of an inch space for sliding in and out of the drawer. So tight that I drilled 1/8th inch holds in it for air flow.
Thanks for the input

Oh okay, sorry, I wasn't real sure if it was a tight-fitting lidless rack-type system there or the lidded type..LOL!

Sure thing man!,....

Yeah, I agree. That kingsnake book makes all other publications on kingsnakes seem like coloring books in my opinion.

Brian sure did one hell of a nice job compiling and authoring that book. Good for you on scoring a copy!

Thanks, The racks I have had for a few years. The guy that made them was on kingsnake.com. He said they were restaurant trays. I also have half trays, and trays that fit three to a shelf. I like the clear I can go into the snake room and just look and see what everyone is up to.

Super strong, you can drop them and they literally bounce. Quite expensive.

I used them alot. Found them at Smart and Final, but the stores in my area stopped carrying them. You can get them online.

that set up would probably do just fine... with baby kingsnakes I always prefer to use aspen or desert snow bedding, that way instead of changing newspaper or paper towels two or three times a week, you can just spot clean the enclosure once a week.

I don't know what the ambient temps are in your snake room. I like to put the moist hide over the heat. That way they can eat and then go in hide and digest with no problems. Just mo........Mike Bodner

Nice looking setups, they always need some tweaking.

I'm digging those clear trays I'll have to check with my local restaurant supplier. Like you I would prefer to be able to see what's happening.

Thanks for the tip on that.
