Northern pines

DISCERN Jan 08, 2011 10:54 PM

This 2004 Ocean Co. northern pine from John Meltzer was the reddest northern pine baby I have ever seen. Each scale was tainted with dark and also light red as a baby. Well, as he got older, the red all but left!! There is now a slight pinkish hue to him that is impossible to capture in pics:

This guy was purchased thru a friend who had acquired him from Scott Crumbly back in 2006. A little different looking than the other northerns I have, but very cool.

I think the parents of this snake are mine that I got from John as babies. I was tempted to keep this "red" one but reluctantly let John sell it. He told me several years later that he had talked to you (I am pretty sure you are the person.) and that this snake had lost almost all of its red coloration. The mother had redish/bown (more brown than red) blotches toward the posterior part of the body, but the male was a nice black and white with no red coloration. I thought it would be neat if the red was retained, but it apparently it is not. Still a wonderful snake. John's pits are great animals and he is a great guy to deal with. He has become a good frind of mine.
