Feeding frequency during pregnancy...

Amp Jan 09, 2011 01:05 AM

I hope everyones breeding season is off to a great start. I'm pretty sure I have my first pregnant female and I don't want to blow the pregnancy by feeding incorrectly. The only information I've come across so far is that you shouldn't feed a boa during the month before parturition. Are there any guidelines you guys use? How often should I feed a pregnant boa (weekly, 2x per month)? Also, should I offer the largest sized item she can eat, or should I stay with a size that won't leave a bulge in her?

I appreciate your help in advance and wish you all the best for 2011.

You don't need to change her schedule. Just keep it to every 2 or 3 weeks. But you should make the feed items smaller then they normally are.

Of course, there is also the chance that she won't eat ANYTHING until after parturition.

I feed mine a very small meal once a month if they will even take it. Some never eat. I feel like if they do eat they seem to bounce back afterwards a lot better. What was the breeding? Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I offered her one large (200 gram) rat and she took it with no problem. During the summer I was feeding her a XXL rat (400 gram ) every week. I will stick with the small stuff and see if she will take it.

This is my DH (bloody albino -Kahl) bred by my male TH (bloody sunglow -Kahl). I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping she makes it through alright. I'm really excited that my first pregnant snake has some awesome genetics. We still don't know what a bloody sunglow will look like...

Keeping my fingers crossed,
Anthony-
