crust (poop?) on snake?

frozenpinkie133 Jan 09, 2011 05:47 PM

Hi, I have a western hognose snake that has some greyish thing stuck on its stomach. I am not sure what it is but it's not coming off. I didn't try taking it off, as the snake is still very small and the crust is really really small.

My question is, is it just stuck poop or is it some skin infection. It is dry and really small and the snake is feeding good and seems healthy. Should I even worry about it? I tried taking pictures but it's really hard to see (since it's so small) so I didn't bother. What do you guys think. Thanks in advance

If it is a VERY young snake, and this dark "crust" is approximately 2/3rds down the belly length, it is probably it's embilical cord scar healing over from where it dropped off after hatching.

DO NOT mess with it!, or it could possibly bleed to death.

Sometimes snakes hatch out with theirs more opened and raw, and less healed over than many others. If this is the case, leave it alone and it will heal and drop off on it's own in due time..

If you could post a pic, that would certainlt help too.
