WHDH (Boston, Massachusetts) 07 January 11 Owner of pet snake lost on 'T' speaks out
Boston: A local woman is hoping to find her lost pet. Her pet snake disappeared while she was riding the "T."
Not every day you lose a snake on a train but it happened during her commute on Thursday on the Red Line, somewhere between Park Street and Andrews Station.
The woman was wearing the snake around her neck, and says it must've slipped away on the train.
“Searching everywhere for her. Did she get in the lining of my coat? Did she get in my bag?” said Moorhouse.
That heartbroken owner is hoping you can help find her pet snake. Melissa Moorhouse lost Penelope on the Red Line this week as the train pulled into Andrew Station.
Moorhouse brings the snake everywhere with her, carrying the animal around her neck. But this time when she got off the train, Penelope was nowhere to be found.
“I know that I ran through Park Street and I know that I got on the train. I say there until I was about to get up to get off at Andrew and she was not with me,” said Moorhouse.
"T" officials stopped the train and searched high and low for her pet, but couldn't track Penelope down.
“It’s very unnerving. I’m not a big fan of snakes to begin with,” said one man.
“You could sit down and it could be underneath the seat or something like that. You never know,” added another man.
Moorhouse says the snake is an important part of her life, and her family, as evidenced by photos and other keepsakes of Penelope in the family photo album. She has been photographed for the holidays dressed as Santa, and her shedded snake skins have been kept in an album like a child’s first haircut.
“A lot of people think it’s unusual, but she’s very affectionate and she has a personality. She’s a really nice snake. I could put her in the hands of a 2-year-old and trust that nothing bad was gonna happen,” said Moorhouse.
Moorhouse also posted an ad on the website Craigslist, asking for help to find Penelope.
She said the person who finds the snake, "will be rewarded, and will also be a hero."
