Filet Mignon Kings!

TonyT89 Jan 12, 2011 03:14 PM

The title just was to catch attention lol. Anyway...

I have always wondered....does the red remain on the high red hypo brooks king until adulthood? Also, I heard that most of them don't, but is there any line out there today that the red does in fact go through the brooks until adulthood? I really want to know. If it is a possibly, I will definitely purchase one for 2011! =)

Correct, most of them do not retain anywhere near the same amount of red pigment into adulthood, and some virtually none and become a more overall yellow or brownish/tan. There are so many variations out there, so it pays to look at the parent stock to see what they still look like.

However, a while back, Zenny Felecien(ZFelecien on this forum) posted a young adult Blaze or flame that STILL had tons of red to it's color scheme. I was quite surprised too!, but most other hypos definitely don't retain anywhere near the amount they started with as hatchlings.

Most of the "Flames" (hypo and normals) out there will not hold their red/orange into adulthood.

All red Floridana fade as they mature some less that others. The deeper/darker red the animal is as a hatchling the more color it will retain as an adult/a nice red head is something to look for also.

Yes:

I've got a Hypo line and non-hypo line that holds red/orange nicely.

Adult female Hypo (being bred by a "Jelly".)

Adult Male (non-hypo) Flame: This is a new line, but it's very promising... breeding these to unrelated lines still results in hi-red hatchlings!

I've seen some at shows that are winners also (Just look for deep/dark red/oranges and red heads for the best of the best)

That male or the 2nd picture is the reddest I've seen in an adult brooks ZF. I did notice some babies have more deeper red, but thanks for the advice I now know what to look for. They are so beautiful. Wish I could find a breeder that has a line that the red stays til adulthood but I think you might be the person!
