temp problems

zippy00_99 Jan 12, 2011 04:38 PM

I converted a condominium bed room into my ball room. I have an oil heater for ambient, and heat rope for belly heat. I have a herpstat 2 hooked up with one probe on the heat rope at 91 degrees. Thats doing just fine, and I have a second probe on the bottom rack closest to the floor set at 83 degrees, but when it gets to 83 the top rack is 88. So I did some experimenting and found out that the floor is always 5 degrees lower than the ceiling. I tried running a "mr cool jr" (it's a little fan) blowing against the oil heater, but it just makes the oil in the heater cool down when I have the fan on it, and when the fan is blowing in another place, (not against the oil heater) it cools the whole room down so making the oil heater work harder.

It is a small bed room with one large window that I have sealed with plastic and a hair drier, so I guess I am looking for some guidance and or suggestions, and or your set ups for a similar situation, because I don't know where my heat AND my humidity is disappearing to?????????? I walked around the room with a lit match and there are no drafts at all......I am really down about this.

Can you put a ceiling fan in the room? You can wire it to an extension cord, and plug it into a wall outlet. Just mount an elec. box on the ceiling (find a stud/rafter) and mount the fan to the box. Try it at the lowest speed. Also try a humidifier in the room, moist air will hold the temp better than dry air, plus your BPs will like it.

Thank you, I am running a humidifier, but I have to refill it every 3 hours. I was thinking about a ceiling fan. I will look into that. I also switched to cypress mulch to hold the humidity better.
