>>Para-pied-albino...?...pretty pic

trooper walsh Sep 27, 2003 01:34 PM

>>I spend most of my time on the Chondro forums even though I do work with albino BP mutations for fun. Well... A couple days ago I hatched out my last clutch of the year, and low and behold along with several normal albinos and several hets - I found this thing poking out... I've been told it is a Paradox albino, although it seems different from pics of the one or two other Paradox BPs I've seen. FYI - the sire was a het albino from Steve Osborn origin, the dam an albino from VPI.

Whatever it might be - I think it's pretty cool. I am also interested in learning as much as I can about Paradox mutations including others who might be working with them...?? Have a look at this pic and tell me your thoughts...???

Thanks for looking, and enjoy...!...TW

Hey Trooper,

That is very COOL!!!!

I have hatched out seeral paradox mutations and they seem to be a random occurence. I do not believe that they are genetic, or at least in the sense I can understand. I have never hatched out a paradox albino, I am green with envy. I have hatched out paradox ghost, pastels, spider and normal . Kev NERD

Nerd,

Have the paradox's you've hatched out been hets? I'm wondering if it's a case where the normally recessive gene decides to partially express it's self.

However, it sounds like that is not the case with the Kenyans anyway. What's up with those? Is it a 2nd recessive gene in addition to albino or is it just a strain of albino that tends to leave black marks with no 2nd gene needed?

meretseger Sep 27, 2003 08:16 PM

In Kenyans it's just a strain of albino. I'm almost positive that the regular albino and the paradox albinos are incompatible. Strangely enough except for the black spots the animals look exactly like the regular T albino strain. So they're producing tyroinase in some parts of their body but full-on melanin in others. Strange.
They never tend to have as much black on them as that ball, though!

Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

It dont look like any paradox ive seen either way it looks SWEET, what was the rest of the clutch? congrats

I have absolutely no idea on the genetics of 'paradox' within ball pythons. On the other hand I work with Eryx (sand boas). In albino and snow kenyan sand boas there is a paradox line which has proven simple recessive. However, it is not visible in normals, only amelanistic specimens (albinos and snow). I think anyone with big money should offer to buy up that animal. Breeding it to one of its brothers/sisters/parents should hopefully shed more light. Top animal!

are by the way sitting on a gold mine. What a beautiful animal. Congratulations.

That must have blown you away when you saw that in the egg. That has to be the best Paradox Albino to date! You couldn't have done better with a black sharpie. Great pic!

Turns out the paradox and one albino are male, two albinos and three hets are female - sweeeeet...! Anyone know of any female paradox BP...?...TW

I hatched out one paradox albino female in 2001. The rest of the clutch was two albino males and one 66% male pos. het. This was from a pair of hets purchased from Steve Osborne in 1997.

Yours is the first female Paradox albino I've heard of. The liniage of my Paradox also goes back to hets purchased from Osborne about that same year - this all on the sire's side. You still have your female...?..TW

Eric Sandoval Sep 30, 2003 05:21 PM

I could be wrong, but I think the one Larry produced is now in the VPI collection. The animal they have is a male though. Ours also came from the 97' Osborne animals.
