GOLD COAST BULLETIN (Molendinar, Australia) 11 January 11 Python survives Coast car engine (Stephanie Bedo)
A large snake had a slithery escape when it was rescued from a car engine in Currumbin Valley.
The 3m carpet python was taken to Currumbin Wildlife Hospital after suffering third-degree burns from being wrapped around the Landcruiser's engine too long.
The driver of the car smelt a burning smell before pulling over and finding the reptile.
Vet Michael Pyne said it was the largest snake the hospital had received.
He said the burns only slowly started to appear in reptiles over time.
The female snake, named Blaze, is receiving antibiotics and strong pain relief.
She will spend the next couple of months recovering in the hospital before being returned to the wild.
