Azureus skin problem

kyle1745 Sep 27, 2003 02:00 PM

Here is a picture of a problem I have noticed on my male Azureus. I have some meds on the way, and just wanted to pass on that Dr.Frye@comcast.net was a great help. I think someone posted the name here a few weeks ago. He took time out of his busy day to return my e-mail and even take my call when I called to pay for the meds. He even tried to get them sent out today, but missed the post office, and will ship them Monday. I just thought I would pass that on. Amazing how nice and helpful he was.

Now the issue, he is sending me a cream Silver Sulfadiazene, and already mixed baytril. I am wondering what is the best way to catch the little guy and hold him while I put the cream on. I don't think I will have a problem catching him as he is normally out and doesn't seem bothered by my hands in the tank.

Should I use gloves, or are clean hands good enough?

Also what are my chances with this frog? I love my azureus, and really do not want to lose one or both.

Here is a pic of the bad area:

No responses yet, I was hoping some of the wise frog elders would give me some ideas...

I'm no frog wise elder, but I would just catch him and use a q-tip to administer the ointment. You could wear gloves if you want, but I'd just wash my hands well before. As for your chances, I have no idea what he diagnosed it with. I would say it has some weight, and if you called the vet right away, I'd think he'd be fine. Best of luck.

I hope the ointment clears it up. I really like these guys. I wonder if it would be a good idea to treat the other one in the tank with the baytril just to be safe. It looks like it could be a scratch that may or may not be infected. I just hope the oinment works.

I was hoping someone had seen this type of thing before, as it really does not look that bad, and the frogs is acting normal, but I have read that they can be very touchy with these types or things.

Is there a proper way to handle them? I mean the least stressful? I normally use a small cup to catch them if needed, but in this case I will have to hold him to put on the ointment.

Kyle,

Your best bet is to use a deli cup or something like that and herd him into it to take him out of the tank and treat him. You could also wait until dark when they settle in, they are a lot easier to catch then since they will usually stay in a crouched position. Good luck and keep us up to date on his progress, BTW, great looking frog and great picture !

Thanks for the nice words on the pictures, and on the frogs. I like the night idea, but they both sleep in the cork, so doubt I could get to them at night. So far my plan is to try to just grab him, but I will only have on shot. I could really make them mad and fill all the holes they sleep in the cork with moss... I did that to my leucs, but they liked to live in a whole in a piece of wood.

My camera can take nightvision type shots, but to be honest I'm not a fan of them and my frogs are normally out of site before the lights go out. I hope my frog is not bad and is fine with a little oinment, we will see.
