I remember reading somewhere that boas will have a preovulation swell, that will resemble an ovulation, and then ovulate at a later date. Well I come home today to find this......either she is ovulating or she ate a football.......can anyone help me.......I am a ball python guy(yeah, I know), and have never witnessed this in boas......I have produced a litter before, but maybe I missed this part of it.......anyone have any ideas on what I should be expecting?......

If you didn't feed her yesterday, then she probably ovulated, lol. She may have only released one of her ovaries (they don't always both go at the same time). Keep the male in with her for at least a couple more weeks, or until you get a post ovulatory shed. The pre-swelling that boas go through is when they are developing the egg follicles. This can usually be viewed as a swelling throughout the entire body, not in a concentrated area. When an ovulation occurs it is large, very noticeable, and usually in the 12-18 inches above the cloaca.

Thanks for the reply. From what you described, she ovulated. I will keep the male in and pull him after she sheds.

Pairing was DH Sunglow male X poss het albino female. Nothing super exciting.
