Here, ill throw in a little something since it has been dead here and i usually just read and dont contribute much:

I got these 3 from john hollister - my 3 new 2010 alterna:

I got them for a really good price right out of the egg.
I have gotten one of them eating regularly on f/t
one of them eats well on live pinkies
the 3rd one is taking a little time to cool off.. he seems to want to bite me all the time but wont eat yet.

LOL! Vader is cool, but then again every time you post, we get a taste of Vader anyway lol!

Anyway, those are real nice! I thought John didn't have any breeding for Alterna since the only pair I've seen from him was a Black Gap. Are those locale or non-locale? Regardless, nice catch! I had a couple of Alterna hatchlings that wouldn't eat as well and kept striking at the glass every time it saw me and I'm assuming the 3rd one does that to you as well. I'm sure some cooling time will get him back to eating great and unscented too! Have you tried live? Sometimes the live pinkie will get them annoyed and suddenly they strike at it and it sort of ends up getting stuck on their teeth and they just eat the whole thing. Worked for me almost every time.

left the country!!!!!!!

chenderson421 Jan 16, 2011 01:04 PM

Ya, ive tried live, tried most of the tricks i can come up with.
One of the others will only eat live right now.

Yes they are locale animals, yet that does not matter at all to me, i just saw one of his adults and told him i need some of those. (It was, of course a typical gray with black bands) alterna that i saw.

Those are nice snakes. They look a lot like Rob Boyles adults.

didn't rob give john his collection to care for 'til rob got right...........just a very sad event....lucky for his animals he had good friends in that area....

Very sad situation indeed. I don't remember the collection being willed to anyone though. I remember his family not being very happy about the situation.

Just thought I would share some pics. First pic, Black Gap anery male produced by Mike Russo. Second pic,Black Gap het.hypo 66%poss.het.anery female. She was produced by Shannon Brown. Third pic,Black Gap hypo male produced by Dave Doherty.

Man, that makes up a whole lot of a man's dream Alterna collection! They are all beauties! I like the anery gap the most I must say. I like anery gaps that display a band pattern very similar to the one you posted. That would be the spitting image of the anery gap I would hope to have by this year. Too bad Mike's waiting list is out of the question right now because I asked him about it and he said there is a loooong list...bummer. I wonder if there are other ways to find an anery gap =(. Thanks for sharing!!!! I got a lot of great examples from your pictures!

Yeah Pete, the wide white border is what drew my attention to her. She was a lucky find. And luck is something that doesn't come my way that often. She will be bred for the first time this year. Hopefully, she will have some nice offspring.

peters Jan 18, 2011 10:55 AM

please put my name at the top of the list if yoy get any youngsters that have those wide white borders next year. I want!
