2011 Breeding

IkeLightner Jan 16, 2011 09:58 PM

Hey all, I am now down to 3 babies from my litter of 25 I had born here this August. It has been fun, busy, and rewarding finding the little ones new homes. I am happy to report a 100% success rate on feeding and healthy babies to date. I am holding back on unique male the showed up in the litter and all the rest are moving on!!!

I have been cycling my breeders since the start of November and I have just introduced my first pairs for the year! I am excited to be pairing up an awesome high-colored 2006 virgin female Lucille that is LARGE, muscular and ready to go. I am hoping to hit the right timing with my 2008 male Sultan but I am not 100% sure he is ready to go so I am also going to rotate my 2006 proven breeder Dugo in as well. I am hopeful for this pairing!!!!

First is my 2008 male "Sultan" I am hoping will get the job done.....

Next is Dugo my proven 2006 male who will also get a crack at Lucille

Last is Lucille my 2006 female that is getting all the attention this year

PS sorry the pictures of Lucille are somewhat old. I can't believe it but when looking back on it I don't have ANY recent pics of her. I am going to look through my files and see if that is really true....

Also, I need to get pics posted up of my 100% het hypo pair I picked up this year. They are doing great and should be up to size to breed next year if everything goes well!!!

Yeah, I am not sure whether or not he can get the job done either. He is probably just hittng the 5 foot mark and I really do not know on weight. I have never measured my snakes weights but I know that he has probably 1/2 the weight of my breeder females.

Very nice group! My money is on Sultan. His color is outstanding, and with a name liek Sultan...

Any pics of the baby male holdback???

Thanks for sharing and good luck,
Ed

Hey, thanks for the compliments!

This one male that I held back is very interesting to me because the mother of the litter displays this very unique striping on her side/belly and this one male from the litter displayed this trait better than any of his siblings. I do not know if there is anything to it or not, but I know that if the striping were to run the full length on their body on both sides they would look very neat and uniform!!! I am planning to hold this male back to either breed with the female who produced him or to wait and breed with a stipe bellied female from a future litter.

These pictures show some of the striping I am talking about, but they don't do him justice. He has striped patterns like this running down both sides of his belly and they intermittenly connect from his head to his tail

Please let me know if any of you have any thoughts or opinions on this one!!!

& for good measure, one of his brighter colored and larger crescented brothers from the same litter

Well I would say you are off to a good start seeing the plugs. I saw them a bunch last year and Dugo got the job done. I have also seen him producing them for the past 3 or so months now too!! I think he knows what time of year it is!!!

IMO the females exude pheromones at this time of year to attract the males. The males get excited when they "smell" those pheromones and their reproductive systems start going into overdrive to be ready.
