Two men, including a registered sex offender, are contesting allegations that they raped an Eau Claire woman using a live snake.
Damonta D. Jones, 24, of Eau Claire and John D. Bullock, 25, of Altoona, Wis., pleaded not guilty in Eau Claire County Circuit Court earlier this week to felony first-degree sexual assault charges. According to the criminal complaint, Bullock admitted to having sex with the alleged victim but claimed it was consensual.
According to the complaint from Eau Claire police:
During one night in November, the victim, a 32-year-old woman, was “consuming intoxicants” and dancing with a friend and her boyfriend, Jones, at his home. Another man, later identified as Bullock but unknown to the victim at the time, also came to the home during the evening.
Later, while the victim’s friend was taking a shower, Jones invited her into a back bedroom “to see his children’s pictures.” When she followed him into the room, he struck her over the head with something and threw her onto the ground. She believes she blacked out, and when she regained consciousness, Jones was holding her down as Bullock raped her.
At some point, Jones said, “I’m going to get the snake,” and retrieved it from another room. The victim said she felt something go into her and then a sharp pain as if the snake had bitten her. The men then said, “Pull it out,” and pulled the snake out of her. The victim said she left the room and told her friend what had happened, but the friend accused her of fooling around with her boyfriend.
Bullock left soon after, and the victim, not knowing who he was, asked Jones his name. Jones said he was “Benjamin Franklin.”
According to the police report, Jones is still on probation for two separate sexual assault convictions, one from Eau Claire County and another from Racine County. Speaking with police, he first denied the victim had visited his home in November but later admitted she had. Jones continued to deny, however, that Bullock had also visited on the same night.
Police executed a search warrant at Jones’ home during the investigation, court records say, looking for a “python snake” and “recording devices.” The victim told police she suspected that Jones was videotaping her while she was dancing.
Both men’s cases are scheduled for a jury trial on March 31.
