People with blues... thinking of getting one

reptilian9 Sep 27, 2003 02:44 PM

I'm thinking of getting a blue tegu (or a red/blue cross). I have a red already, who is very sweet. I'd like to hear anybody's comments on their blues, are they aggressive at all, nice? Some adult pictures would be great, I think I've seen every blue pic on the net. I hope I'm not spoiled by my red's tameness - I can't explain how sweet and tolerant he is. Any comments on blue's differences in care/diet would be appreciated. Thanks!

My blue is also very sweet she is wonderfull. I think its all in how you interact with them when you get them if you leave them alone they will be more agressive if you handle them and spend time with them they should mellow out. However I also think it like with people each has thier own personality. because my blue is a doll and my black and white while not mean is a pain in the butt.
Good luck

About 6 months after we brought home our hatchling Red we decided to get a Blue also. The Blue has outgrown the Red. Our Red, Maggie, has always been a light eater, and the Blue (Bogota) eats everything in sight. However, the Red is much more docile and enjoys being picked up and handled. The Blue resists being picked up, but once in hand, calms down and is also rather mellow.

They live together, and we always find them burrowed and sleeping or basking together. They seem to enjoy being together. I'm sure with regular handling the Blue will also lose the instinct to run and hide, and as they get larger they will spend more and more time outside of the enclosure and running the house. Hope yours (when you add your Blue) works out as well. It was a great move in our case.
