Regular Floridana...Endangered

bone47 Jan 18, 2011 03:49 PM

well at least in collections it seems. I dont see many regular (non-Brooksi) Florida Kings posted here. I realize many of them arent the most attractive of snakes but a nice big normal is a sight to behold. Here are my "Non Brooksi" Florida Kings. If you have them please post them.

He does have some light yellow here and there but he is a F1 from WC parents. The Dad in the pix Ive seen is black and white looking and the Mom has a decent amount of yellow speckling. Nick Mesa produced him.

Female:

Male:

The male does have an "anerythristic" look, but upon close inspection does show a very slight yellowish hue. I suppose perhaps I should investigate this with test breeding.

This is comparison between that Dade County male and a Hillsborough female from the same line that Bone has.:

Love that comparison shot between the 2 Kings. It really illustrates how white that male is. That female in the comparison pic is the spitting image of her little Brother.

hmmm. I happen to be of the notion that there are very few snakes that should be called "brook's" in the hobby.
(and since the moniker was sunk I guess none should be??)
Most would not fit the original descripton...in my book anyway....almost none are "creamy" looking....too bright and/or dark.....

Well Im sure everyone has an idea of what a "Brooksi" should or shouldnt look like.

I hear what you are saying though Mark and I also believe the "Look" if you will of a Brooksi has changed too much. Color in "Brooksi" isnt a deal breaker for me but all those really low band(crossbar) counts and wide banded animals make me take pause. Like I said normal ol Florida Kings are either not showcase worthy for many or not many people are keeping them anymore. Either way its a bit sad.

You're not alone bro. I have several of the normals too - with no blazing reds or high yellows...just plain jane Florida kings. And I still love them. Regular Floridanas have been a long time favorite of mine for many many years.

It's not the best pose but it's a Dade County Florida that I had about 18 years ago.

Very cool Jorge!

I had one virtually just like that one that my construction buddy captured in western Broward county around 1989 or so. I really wanted it and gave him like $20 bucks for it during lunch break at the construction site..LOL! He was a super easy-going critter. I really liked that little guy.

Thanks for sharing those old-time nostalgia photos!. Wish I could find a few I took of my old-timer...arrgh!

That's cool man! The memories we have of finding Kings randomly are just that memories. I doubt that will ever happen agin to me anyway. I remember finding Speckled Kings in New Orleans quite often when I least expected it. Florida kings are very rare finds these days.

There's one photo of him in the glass tank when He was about 30 to 36 inches. But the two pics where he's woofing down a medium rat He was already near 5 feet. He was husky but all muscle.

Wow, thats even darker than some of the kings I've found in Dade County. Looks like he was a real healthy specimen!

Yeah He was eating rats before I had to sell off my whole collection due to financial problems. He was very calm, I liked him a lot.
