DAILY HERALD (Chicago, Illinois) 20 January 11 Bloomingdale man accused of keeping alligators
A Bloomingdale man is accused of keeping a pair of alligators in his yard.
Bail was set at $3,000 this morning for Patrick J. Bettes, 36. He was being held in the DuPage County jail on a misdemeanor charge of keeping a dangerous animal.
Assistant State’s Attorney Debora Brewer told Judge Neal Cerne that Bettes was arrested after authorities found two alligators in his yard on the 200 block of Pinewood Lane.
“They already came and confiscated them,” the defendant told the judge at a bond hearing.
Brewer said Bettes has a significant criminal history that includes multiple convictions for felony drug charges and other offenses.
Cerne lowered a predetermined bail from $15,000 to $3,000, noting that Bettes is charged with a nonviolent offense. Bettes would have to post $300 to be released.
Keeping a dangerous animal is a Class C misdemeanor, authorities said.
