corn plugged up?

EricJ Sep 27, 2003 03:47 PM

my roommate got a new corn recently. It has eaten twice now but i haven't seen any feces around the cage. I figured the first time it was under the bedding but now when i was holding him today i notice that there is a distinct difference in the thickness of where the vent stops and the rest of the tail. Since he's an albino i think you can see through a little bit. Like the look of a shrimp that hasn't been deveined. I know for geckos you're supposed to soak them in warm water for a bit. Same for snakes?

I doubt it.If your temps are ok there shouldnt be a problem.Your corn's defication schedule depends on how often you feed it and the temperature inside the enclosure. If your worried try giving the guy swim in some 85 degree water.Just make sure your not taking a corn out of a 68 degree enviroment and dropping him into water. This can cause shock or kill your snake...Paul.

If you are using substrate like aspen or something similar it can be hard to find the feces. I use paper towels so I don't have that problem, but I used carefresh (a type of bedding usually used for rodents) for a while and I had a hard time finding the feces. Especially if it's a hatchling, the feces are going to be small and therefore even harder to find.

If you ever do decide to soak your snake, make sure the water is luke warm, not hot, and also that it isn't too deep, so your snake doesn't have to swim. (I heard of someone putting a snake in a container of water for a while unattended and the snake drown because it had to constantly swim and it wore itself out.) If they can feel the bottom of the container they are more content to stay in the container, otherwise they are going to try to get out.
