Let the 2011 games begin.....

Put my breeding groups together last night. Lots of urates spread around in various cages - normal. I believe they are "scenting" looking for a mate. This morning I even found one pair wrapped up, Ann and Diablo...

Pic does not show it but at one point they moved a little and I could see that they were actually copulating, talk about starting off the season with a bang!! Much more often than not I will see the tails wrapped up but so tightly I can't tell if it's courting or actual copulation. The visual confirmations of copulation are few and far between.

I have noted the same thing and yes they have always come from my females..... I think they are their scent trails, or at least they would be in the wild, in their cages I think it ends up scenting the entire cage which probably isn't a bad thing in regard to getting the male into breeding mode.

It's always good to see your snakes wrapped up. Ann and Diablo should be a really good combo. I can't wait to see what the babies look like.

Hey, when it's only available for a short time period each year, you grab all you can while the getting is good!!!

As Ike already indicated, it's from the females and it's likely a scent trail that in the wild a male would slither across and then follow. I also think the male gives off his own pheromones since this urate scenting seems to happen right after the male is present. Literally - cleaned all the cages, opened the tubes and added in males last night. Within an hour or so (in some cases mere minutes) many cages had urates spread all over the place.
