What to do about broken jaw?

savana_man Sep 27, 2003 03:55 PM

My savana monitor has a broken jaw. I don't know how he got it. When we took him to the vet he said that the monitor wasn't worth fixing, because he has a better chance of dieing in surgery than surviving. What should I do? To feed him we have to hold him and kill the crickets for him and he can't even eat a pinkie. Any help is greaty appreciated.

If your monitor is healthy, then bones heal in a matter of days. Taping the part in place is usually all thats necessary. But if your monitor has CDD, or is unhealthy in other ways, then the vet, may be right. They don't normally break their jaws. F

Well he is the only vet that will deal with reptiles here. I'll try to find another one though. She dosen't look as healthy as she did 3 days ago. When we tried to let her kill and eat the crickets on her own it either takes her a long time or she can't do it. Her bottom jaw just flops around like jello.

Please be honest when you reply to this question. It may be able to provide valuable insight to the cause for this animal having such porous bones. Not to mention, be a lesson to many reading this post. We all make mistakes. If you scroll down you can see for youself about my BT having to go to the vet.

All the best,
Michelle
