Cool enclosures! Is there any other heat source besides that bulb on the side?
Bone
Real nice enclosures John. Did you make those? I'm guessing yes from the very nice ornamental globes over the light bulbs. Very good repurposing idea regardless.
I like the dry and moist drawers too and caps at the ready to close of the exits. LOL
I can't quite make out what that is on the left wall. Is it a smale RHP or a vent?
My pyros love PT tubes for hides. As does my male carpet, funny to see him cram his 3 1/2' into it though. Reminds me of 10 lbs of [bleep]e in a 5 lb sack. LOL I gave him a bigger tube but he still loves his little one.
How about some more details on your enclosures. I love to steal other people's ideas. LOL

Hey T, I was wondering the same thing! I'm willing to bet who ever built these, designed them around those tubs, cause they fit perfectly. Nice Applegate style cages John! I have a similar Idea using just tubs that slide out for the drawers. Now If I could just make it so?

Thanks BigT......I made six of these and modeled them off of some Applegate enclosures I picked up a few years back.
The "globes" over the light bulbs are jars.....They screw right into the lids. They protect the snake from directly contacting the light bulb.
There is nothing on the left wall...that is the handle you see on the glass door....The vent is in the back wall....
And that "tube" in the back is a "snake toob" i got from Thomas Davis....very nice invention of his......

These look identical to the Applegate enclosures you bought from David Weymouth a few years back. I would like to see some of the ones you built.
A link to a pic of David's enclosures which he seems to have bought from Kim Caldwell.

BTW....I didn't buy them at all.....they were give to me by David.......I got those three white ones and the two longer wooden ones to the right of them in those photos of David's.....
Here are the 6 enclosures I build that are modeled after the Applegate Enclosures, but are slightly different......

And I did not post pictures the little inventions I have placed in the bottom tubs......

How bout my new incubator?

Sweet! My incubator is the top shelf in the closet in my spare bedroom.
Tell me about your "little inventions" in the bottom tubs of the enclosures you built. I think that we found a very simple formula for keeping snakes (the sweater box with temp gradient and a few hides) and that has stifled experimentation. The sweater box model works for the most part, but it is not the best way to keep herps, just the easiest. For the most part I'm still using sweater boxes in a rack, but I'm experimenting with other ideas.

A first rate construction for sure!
Are these thayeri breeders or siblings?

Well you know my stance on communal housing for kings. I keep mine together year round except during laying.
Your setup is far superior than anything I use. It just makes it that much better for the snakes to do "their thing".
Anytime we support the snakes in a more natural way in captivity, it is better for the snakes. I remember FR mentioning keeping colonies in large trash cans with layers of boards and different substrates. The snakes did everything in there including thermoregualting. searching the best humid spot and eggs laying.
Whatever works best for the snakes. Asthetics is not important to the snakes, only the keeper. Your setup seems to do both. Great job!
And keep popsting pics of some of your setups and ideas. It will give people pause for thought on how to keep snakes and meet their ecological needs better.

Thanks...I have 20 of these enclosures now......This is my only communal housing project at the time......more to come if all goes well......
The others are in racks but I have a little invention that combines all the options of an Applegate Enclosure in a tub....stay tuned....lol

>>Looks like the moist side is comfortable!
Yep.....They spend most of their time in there....either on the hot side after they eat or on the cool side when they are hungry........
I don't see them drink hardly any water at all when they are in these enclosures.......they never get dehydrated I guess and prey items provide water.......

I got those already made Thomas.....I do have some that I made from this idea though.....I posted them in this thread further up.....but I did not post my invention because I didn't want anyone stealing the idea just yet....LOL
And I am using your Snake Toob...works great.
I will be getting more from you the next time you are at a show I attend............
There is heat cable running behind the drawers...acts as belly heat when they are 'above ground' and back heat when they are in the drawers........
The light bulbs are on timers but the heat cable is run via a thermostat......
