longevity of f/t mice and rats

SteveinIL Jan 26, 2011 03:12 AM

I was wondering how long it's ok to keep frozen feeders frozen before they "go bad". I was also curious to how long you can leave a thawed mouse/rat in the tub with the snake before the food needs to be tossed out?

6-24 months depending on how it was packaged.

you will know when it's time to toss a thawed feeder.....your room will smell. try placing the thawed feeder on the cool side of your tub. if placed on the hot side the heat will accelerate the decaying process....starting with the bloating at the stomach and so on....

can I leave it in the tub overnight or is that too long. the g/f isn't happy waking up to dead mice in trash.

you could....just don't leave it on the hot side....it will start smelling after about 8-10hrs.

if your GF doesn't like to see it, tell her not to look at it....TOO EASY!

a long time BIG time breder once told me....he used them till they were gone....sounds good to me.....

I have used 2 and 3 year old stuff....

I don't do it often....but the freezer fills up and at times it's hard to sell from the bottom of the pile....so it catches up to me....(I used to sell the old stuff real cheap for turtle food, gator food,,,even free)

......thawed left IN a cage...over night...then it stinks....
