Female Laid Eggs.

sbryant2004 May 26, 2003 03:24 PM

i wasnt the least bit prepared i noticed that she was acting a bit strange and didnt eat for a week but she laid 2 pretty good sized eggs that i noticed when i went up in my room about an hour ago for right now since its memorial day i went out and got some moderate moist soil. i heated it up to 80 degrees f and plopped the lil eggs in there. the thing is the female laid them sometime last night in the substrate right next to her nest box? any ideas on how i can tell if these are still alive?

so its ok to use soil from outside? just until tomorrow? i dont have any stores open due to it being memorial day

ohh, i thought you meant you went out and bought soil. i dont know if its ok, probably depends on where you got it and what it is. is it just dirt? try just damp paper towels until you can get some vermiculite or perlite. what are the temps in your house? cos' unless you have had an incubator running, or its a stable temp between 80-90 degrees in your house, they probably wont live.

its regular dirt. my room actually is warm cuz i have an ig living in there 2 with a monster heat lamps i have a 100watt reptile light above it right now. its at a steady 80f

im getting my mom to run out and get me perlite first thing in the morning

i also have some potting soil on the back porch if thats somewhat useful

potting soul will be much better then dirt. who knows what could be in the dirt to contaiminate your eggs. make sure not to make it too moist. go to albey's site to learn more about incubting with perlite.

If the eggs are firm and white then there is a good possibility that they are fertile. If they are soft and yellowish then they are most likely not. If you found them recently, then they are probably not dead. Just make sure that you didn't roll them over when you found them and keep their incubator at a relativly stable temp between 80-88 (try not to drop below or go above those temps). Make sure the box is nice and humid but not wet.
