White bellies........

mo2003 Sep 27, 2003 05:50 PM

I saw something on this below and thought I would throw a question out there. Are there any hets that seem to have the white belly instead of the normal belly? Is this a signature for some possibly interesting genetics or just another pattern distinction?

There is a RUMOR that some het pieds have white bellies with black striping at the edge. Below is a link to what I think is the original thread on this subject.

Two of my sister's three 50% chance het pieds have this and passed it to about half of their babies this year so I hope there is something to it. One think is clear; some 100% het pieds do not have it. The only question is if it means something when you do see it or not.

There are also the “yellow bellies” and Mojaves and Phantoms and Platties which I think all have white (or at least black free) bellies and may all be hets for sorts of leucistics.

After seeing these I’m thinking white bellies are a good things to look for in a ball pythons. I’m sure many times it doesn’t mean anything but maybe some times it does.

I believe that both clowns and striped ball pythons have white bellies in the homozygous form but I don’t know if it’s seen at all in the heterozygous form of either.
