het hints?

gothpython Sep 27, 2003 05:51 PM

i just noticed a recent ad posted by the morph king. he's got a orange ghost hets and clown hets. now i am assuming that the 2 pics in his ad are of a clown ball and a het for clown. i have a wc ball that i recently bought and both his and mine have the same markings on the head. somewhat of an eagle type thing. if there are visual markings to tell which are clown hets could mine be a clown het because it looks like his? my thinking is that my snake is just a normal.

Actually I looked at the ad you are refering to and, the one on the left is a clown and the picture on the right is a ghost. GENERALLY hets look normal so your BP is most likley not Het for clown otherwise you would know it by the pricetag.

Sorry to disappont you but so far there is no link between the coloration/markings of normals and hets. The gene that is expressed in normals is also expressed in hets which is why there is no way to tell the difference. Good eye though, you may want to keep an eye on that you may have found something!!! My het for albino also has strange markings on her head but so do my normals so it may be a coincedence.

Check out the Breeders Bragging Post at http://www.vpi.com for June 2002. Someone hatched out a Classic Jungle that was 50% chance het clown and then Tracy posted a het Clown that also had a similar Classic Jungle look (both with broken eye lines). I'm thinking the one Tracy posted is the same het clown that Hillary is now working with but I didn't take time to compare the complete patterns to be sure.

So, that's really not much evidence - one het and one 50% chance het. I'm sure there are plenty of Classic Jungles that have nothing to do with Clown and probably plenty of normal looking het Clowns (I've never seen a for sure het in person). I do own a 50% het clown male that seems to have a mostly white belly but since he is the only one I've seen and I can't even be sure he is a het (at least 50% chance he isn't) I really can't say. Just something to look out for.
