Blaze color

mfoux Jan 27, 2011 07:36 PM

Hey, I thought some of you might like to see the color progression in my patternless blaze goini cross that I got from Tom Stevens a few months ago.

Here's the pic of the snakeback in September when he was just a few weeks old:

And here's a pic I took tonight. The color change occurred almost entirely in his most recent shed.

He has a pretty cool purple sheen when the light hits him (looks gray in the pics). I was wondering if any of you guys who have these patternless blazes (goini and going crosses) would post some pics of yours.

That is a very pretty snake! Call me strange but I actually like the ones with a bit of pattern in them. I think they make more interesting looking adults. I purposely picked these last year for having pattern, against some that had vertually no pattern. Both types were being sold at very reduced prices so I could have gotten either one. These are still babies.

I love the bellies too!

These are siad to be pure Blaze, with no Brooks influence. The Breeders said some one took some these and crossed them with hypo Brooks and the offspring were normal. What ever he means by normal? I guess they were not hypo?

"The Breeders said some one took some these and crossed them with hypo Brooks and the offspring were normal. What ever he means by normal? I guess they were not hypo?"

Blaze and hypo are two different recessive traits. So the babies would be normal looking double hets.

OK so it would be comletely normal, except the pattern on some would probably be a little aberrant?

The 2x hets looks pretty "normal" (no aberrance at all really)

here are some pix of 2x hets for Blaze and Hypo:

Here are some F2's: losts of crazy patterns, attributed to both the blaze and hypo genes. Just one of the reasons i crosses these was to see how they'd "react" with each other and the combination really seems to enhance the look of the offspring (separately both blaze and hypos mutations tend to drastically fade into adulthood)

F2 Poss. 2x hets: nothing really unsual besides blotched patterns on these

I do think these may be classified as their "own" morph/2x morph eventually; just gotta figure out what's going on! I'm really not sure if Blaze, Hypo or Both genes are being expressed in these... i will eventually thou:

Those are very nice looking! I really like that one with the tiny spots down it's back.

Those are really nice. I saw some in Daytona a couple of years ago and was blown away.

Here's the female I have to match with my patternless male.

BTW, both the male and female were from the same parents, so I can't wait to see what they produce for me.
