hide boxes

SteveinIL Jan 27, 2011 09:01 PM

I bought some hides from reptile basics and they're great but my bps are too big for the ones that fit in the tubs I'm using. the breeder I picked up my mojave from uses the containers you get mushrooms in at the grocery store. Just hoping for some feedback on using them and also if anyone knows where to get them w/o having to eat a lot of mushrooms

I use plastic flower pots. You cam get them in a variety of sizes and can cut them to any heights. Alot of time you get relativity cheap ones.

Honestly ball pythons do not need any hide boxes depending on their cage. If you are using a rack system or just tubs then they actually treat the enclosure as a hide box because it is farely dark. If you are using a terrarium or wooden cage then you should consider getting some larger ones. I make mine out of 12qt tubs and cover them with duct tape to make it darker.

I disagree. Balls, like so many other snakes, are thigmatropic animals that seek out secure and safe environments.

They seek out a hidespot, and they thrive with a hidespot. The tighter the better, just big enough to fit.

Providing a "house" for the snake is not the same thing. In the "house" analogy, no matter how dark, the ball would still be hiding, securely, under the bed.
