Starting an Import Business in California

BlkDm0n Sep 27, 2003 06:13 PM

Does any one know what licenses would be required to lawfully import reptiles from around the world. My emphasis would primarily be asian reptiles. I would start out on a small scale at first and then expand as time and profitability permit. I would hope to alter the manner in which the animals are treated by the exporters, I was think about taking trips to the localities locating my own animals, taking care of their husbandry until export to the US through licensed exporters. I'd appreciate any advice. I feel that by reducing my mortality rates that I could offer lower prices and higher quality animals to retailers. Although it would be an involved process I feel in the long run that it could be a great balance between profitability and ecological responsibility. I'd appreciate any feedback.

I think that if you look into the USDA and US fish and wildlife they might be of help.. Of couse you would have to get CITES permits for them. I have been told that is isn't the easyest or cheapest thing in the world..
If you do it let me know I will be more than happy to by herps from a business such as that.. Look into farmed herps as well..
