Question about BRBs

biogeek2 Jan 28, 2011 06:03 PM

Hi all, Im considering getting either a BRB or a Woma.
Im leaning toward a Woma(easy care and active) Ive heard that brbs spend all their time in hiding, is this true?
Also Im concerned about temperament, Ive read a few posts that said they are nasty and others that say theyve never met a mean adult brb, whats your opinion?

Would a 48x24x24 be sufficient for one?

Also what is the exact temp range and humidity levels(I have problems with humidity here)?

Thanks everyone, I have to say that rainbows are absolutely more beautiful then the womas.

Cliff covered it very well.

Only thing I'll add is I have over a hundred and not one nasty one in the bunch. Yes, as with ANY snake you need to pay attention to mood. And also may need to break the ambush predator trance they are often in (waiting for food to walk by)

I even have a wild caught adult female that was clearly wild when I got her. Not so much nippy as flailing herself around to avoid being held. Got her in early 2007 and now is no different than my captive bred for handling.

And yeah, I would recommend a BRB, they are stunning creatures!!!

I have both (woma & brb). The brb's need high humidity levels when they're young. They're both around 6ft and very mellow, except you better be careful when feeding the woma because their feeding response is crazy. Too me the woma makes a better display animal because he's always cruising around during the day whereas the brb only comes out at night. A 48x24 cage is sufficient. It's really a matter of preference. You can't go wrong with either one.

"you better be careful when feeding the woma because their feeding response is crazy"

So true!!! This is when I tried to move this one's box hide:

I absolutely LOVE my Woma's, as they are really like big Kingsnakes. Once they realize you aren't feeding them, they calm right down and will let you hold them no problem.

Though, the BRBs are my absolute favs... can't beat the iridesence and tons of variety!

The thing that bothers me is I rarely see pics of adult brbs or even less people handling them.
Of course womas arent real popular eithers so pics are rare.

I handle ALL of my aduilt brbs with no problems whatsoever!!! I wish I could find some other pics i have of me holding some of my other adults. But here is what I could find on the spur of the moment

My baby BRB is hands-down the coolest little snake ever. She's never even thought about snapping at me, even in blue, and she eats like a champ! The other forum members have seen this picture before, but here's an example:

I'd say go for a Brazilian Rainbow Boa. If you have a properly set up cage, they are easy to take care of and look stunning.
