Hey everyone! I am just posting an update for those interested!! In the past 3 or so months I have been working on deciding on and planning for new cages for all of my BRBs. I have currently been housing them in rack systems including my adults (in huge 4.5 ft long Christmas tree tubs) and am ready to have more viewable and front opening cages!!

Since I really not familiar with any of the commercial cage manufacturers (always used glass aquariums and built my own cages until now) I have decided to try a few different known brands out for myself. I have now ordered 4 cages of the 6 I will have by March.

I am buying all 4x2 cages with 4 of them being 15 inches tall and 2 of them 12 inches. These are going to house my adult BRBS, breeding pairs, and I also plan to use dividers in them to house sub-adults. I am not sure if I am breaking the rules to post the manufacturers names that I purchased from but I bought 2 from each of the following cage cos..... animalplastics, reptiracks, boaphile platics. I have had my first of these cages (ap) setup for about 4 months now and have been working on figuring out exactly how to control the temps and humidity etc

Here are some pictures of my first "prototype" cage. The plant is real and is one golden pothos,it loves the light, temp and humidity of this cage!!!!

Oh yeah......and the plants on top of the cage and next to it are banana trees, a bromeliad, and a sago palm.

Moist, moss hide box, although it isn't used as much as in other cages since the entire cage has a HIGH humidity level

Oh yeah....and this past week I had a long phone conversation with pro-products about radiant heat panels for all 6 of my new cages. We are working on just the right setup and I will have that ordered in the next week or two!!!

I am also debating on a light source and live plants for all 6 of the cages or not. I know it is more work and all but I just love the naturalistic cages and I am sure the snakes do too (though I do know that with gravid females this will not work if the cage provides too many hiding spots for the new babies)

The one thing I am wondering about is how much the small fluorescent lights will bother my BRBs. I currently run mine on a timer and have adjusted the light cylce to stay close to the same as the outside natural light cylce, but I didn't know if this bright of a light in their cage would bother them??? Does anyone have any opinions on this???

Where did you find that tapestry? I want one! lol

I've only used Boaphiles for caging, and LOVE them! I wish I could afford to buy a whole bunch more to get most of my BRBs out of tubs. You'll have to let us know how you like the different brands.

I will keep everyone informed on how I like the different brands of cages. I will say that right now boaphile wins on shipping/lead time, animal plastics is second, and repti racks is way way lagging but I hope to have my cage from them soon!!!!
