freedom breeder rack or...?

Amp Jan 31, 2011 12:20 AM

I currently have an 8 level cb70 rack from freedom breeder. It is currently empty but I bought it with the intention of breeding bp's in it (which I currently don't have). I'm at the point where I'm ready to expand into this new realm.

My concern is this: will my rack be able to keep the tubs warm enough with only 3" flex watt? I know a lot of people use racks similar to the ballroom rack from boaphile. It is my understanding that these other types of racks will hold heat better because they are insulated on all sides. I currently have another freedom breeder rack for my adult boas, but have wrapped it in insulation on 3 sides to help hold the heat in. I also use a room heater to keep the ambient temp at 78. My problem is that the room heater is raising the electric bill.

In your experience is one better than the other? Should I only be using the FB rack if I can maintain the ambient temps without problems?

Thanks in advance for your experience,
Anthony-

With a FB rack you will need to have the room heated to ambient temps and you'll need to raise the room humidity to proper levels as well.

They do not hold heat and humidity well. Other than that they are practically indestructible and should last a lifetime.

I agree with open top you are going to have problems without good ambient temp and humidity. I use ARS systems and had a very hard time before we used a room heater keeping temps where them.

I know the new FB offer a solid top which they might be able to fit your older systems. Give them a call maybe they can make something work.
