Are my senticolis ready to breed?

Ryan_Sikola Jan 31, 2011 06:47 PM

I have an 08 female that out grew her 07 male last year. They have been cooling for a couple months now. They are both A eaters and I even had to put her on a diet last year!

Do they look large enough to breed this year? What do you think? Any other info would help because I would just breed them the same as my other rats, kings and pituophis unless told otherwise.

Male:

More flattering photos soon.

The male is certainly big enough - and the female is most likely okay to go as well (2.5 - 3 years old is good for most colubrids), but she could maybe stand some beefing up for breeding. Personally, I would not put a growing female on a "diet" - especially if you are planning to breed her. Females of this species are well known for being much larger (length and girth) than males of the same age. My adult female is much larger than my adult male, and she is also younger than him...

She was getting rolls, and pockets of fat. I didn't want to push too hard.

Wow! I've never seen that in such a young snake - but have in old ones. Best of luck!

Me neither!

I've had a couple brooksi go lardo but I lowered my female senticolis to one adult a feeding from 2 because of her rolls and fatty deposits. My CB greens are one of the easiest snakes I've had the pleasure to raise.
