Thermostat

Ok I am debating between a Helix or herp stat. I will probably be getting a mid range one between 150-200 dollars. I was just wondering if there are any perks between the two and your options on them. Thanks!

I would suggest a Johnson Control thermo. We use dozens of them in our facility, for everything from heat tape to panels to incubation. They are professional, reliable, and affordable.

Robyn,

Do you have a proportional model from Johnson Controls?

Nope, just the on/off type, but they work great in all of our applications.

If you get a Herpstat ND you will not regret it. Lots of "bells and whistles" and about the same price as a Helix DBS1000.

helix break easy but I have not used herpstat!

JLballs Feb 01, 2011 01:42 PM

I use 3 herpstats, i would use nothing else, i have used helix and had it malfunction after 3 weeks, ive been using these herpstats for the past 3 years with no issues. Plus the higher model you buy the more bells and whistles they have, i dont know what the model number is but the herpstat that can control 4 separtate enclosures has the ability to hook up to the internet so you can see what all is going on with them from any computer. I have not heard anything for johnson controls...

One last thing, What is the difference between the ground plug and normal? Any advantages?

On a non-grounded unit on a metal rack you run the risk, if something happens, of having the rack becoming electrically charged. If it's a grounded unit you have that added safety net.

You really want to use the grounded unit if you are using metal racks.

I use a melamine rack, so it would be ok to just use the normal?
