Mauzuri Rodent Breeder Question

Ronin3886 Feb 01, 2011 10:17 AM

I was reading the ingredients and saw the it contained BHA. BHA I understand is an excellent preservative but, is also known contribute to carcinogenicity and tumorigenicity. Should I be worried about any side effect about being ingested by your reptiles?

This is why I feed Harlan Lab Diet. I have the same concerns. Studies have shown BHA contributes to carcinogenicity and tumorigenicity as you stated.

What formula do you use and where do you order/get it from?

2018 or 2020 and I order directly from Harlan. You must make a minimum order in most cases. A local pet store near me also carries it which makes it nice too.

I believe it is easier to find in the midwest. I live on the west coast so ordering has to be done in large quantities or they won't ship. With shipping it works out to like $20 per 33 lb bag.

Alan, where do you still get Harlan?

I used Harlan 2018 and Aspen for 15 years. I survived that $1000 minimum order for many years. Eventually I was informed they would not be able to supply me anymore. It was my understanding they wanted to build up their Lab customers more than smaller reptile breeders. I had no choice but to find a rodent feed to replace the 2018. FRM has protein content much too high. I chose Mazuri Rodent 6F and I have to say....I get probably TRIPLE the tumors since making this switch. I would love to receive Harlan again, but the subsidiary suppliers for Harlan will not deal with small orders. If anyone has any suggestions, please send them my way. I live in North Florida.

The minimum order is $1000. Sales rep ships to the west coast. I don't know about your area.
