I need some help with ID this corn.

Joann42 Feb 03, 2011 02:26 PM

Several years ago I had to rehome all my snakes including my sons cornsnake.Well, he has to this day not forgiven me.
I bought it at a reptile expo as a tiny baby for 20 bucks out of a "bin "o" snakes".He had it for at least 5yrs.

Can someone help me find one just like it(that will grow into something close to her).I would love to surprise him for his birthday this coming April.
It was very orange and red, had lots of yellow along its neck too.It underside was mostly checks but turned orange toward the tail.

that is a very nice normal or okeetee. I would suggest going though a reputable dealer and getting an okeetee. An okeetee is considered a "normal" or wild type corn but they have been selectively bred to enhance the colors and enhance the black borders around the saddles.
do a search on here for okeetees and you will see them ranging in looks from similar to yours to very much brighter with wider darker borders. Quite a range of looks but definitely some of the most impressive corn snakes out there

The normals dont look as bright as the one he had.I know she wasnt a normal/classic but very close to one with less black and darker orange background color.
I was on this site
http://www.vmsherp.com/ViewCornsnakes.htm
And the closest thing I could find to the one we had was a hypo bloodred..My son actually loved the Candy cane corn when I showed him the different corns so maybe a look alike isnt so important.

Personally I would love to have a Butter corn or that Pewter was pretty nice too.

Well I can assure you that picture is not a bloodred. However instead of trying to recapture the one that your son used to have just let him pick out which ever one he likes. Bloodreds are very nice by the way. Ireally like Miami Corns too. There's so many varieties, there's one for everyone. Good luck finding the right one, I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you get, so long as it's healthy.

Thanks Jimmy, I really like her too she is the cream of the crop from my Miamis last year, but there are a few siblings that come close. I am getting all my permits and stuff ready to start selling again very soon, hint hint.

I agree with Jimmy.

That would either be considered a "nice" normal or "low grade" Okeetee.

You shouldn't have much trouble finding one at a reptile show, though it's dificult to judge how a baby will look as an adult.
