She weighs 890 grams now and is over five feet long. I tried to measure her this morning but she would not cooperate, so have to guesstimate , since she is over a foot longer than her four foot cage. She was hatched August 24, 2008.

She had a brief winter fast, and now is eating again every five or so days as usual.

Do you think she is big enough to breed this spring? Not that I plan to breed her, as the closest male I have is half her size, and anyway , what would I do with a bunch of baby Pacific gopher snakes! LOL!

Her baby picture with a full belly.

Pyro,

You get any neonates that in any way resemble Gonzo, you won't have any trouble finding homes for them. You may even find me near the front of the line.

Thanks!
This is Lorenzo, a couple months younger than Gonzo and about half her size. He is the only male I have that could possibly handle mating with her. Before introducing them I would make sure she had plenty to eat for a long period of time first! LOL! I'd watch them closely, too!

An old picture from last February. He is a lot bigger now but no where near her size. I think he is more the normal size for this kind of snake at this age and she is unusually large.

Well you have plenty of time with a pair of snakes that are less than three years old. Probably best not to rush things if there is no need to. At any rate, neonates from that pair should be absolutely stunning for the Pacific race which can otherwise tend to run somewhere between straw and mud brown.

I have a pair of 09 San Diego's (clutchmates) with a similar growth pattern. The male (up to this point) has been a fussy feeder and is still less than 24" long. The female is anything but by rarely refusing a meal and is at least 36" long at 1.5 years.

They're all still down under for at least another week. Waiting until after this cold spell passes.

I wont be breeding the Pacifics this spring, as my main focus is on my pyros, who are big and old enough to breed. By next year Lorenzo should be big enough to handle Gonzo! I would just be nervous putting a pair together with one so much larger than the other.

I've always loved that snake ...ya know, 850 gms seems pretty light for a 5 pit, but she looks more than healthy and robust.

Nah, 890 grams not 850 grams. She has just resumed eating again after her winter fast, so I expect she will pack on some more weight pretty fast. I feed her as much as she wants.

Oh yeah, forgot that you had her in brumation. My Black Pine and one of my northerns are 900 grams now and probably around 52 inches and they're not fat. Maybe I'm just under estimating their length.
