Knoblochi Weight & Growth

vegas_justin Feb 04, 2011 04:56 PM

I have a female Knoblochi that I purchased on 11/17/10 - She hatched in June 2010.

I weighed her on 11/19/10 and she weighed it at: 12.8g

Then on 12/31/10 she weighed in at: 17.0g

On 1/16/11 she weighed in at: 17.7g

Then finally on 2/2/11 she weighed in at 21.3g

Does this appear to be a normal growth rate to some of you more experience Knoblochi breeders.

Also, what weight do knoblochi's top out at on average for an adult (female & male)?

Thank you,

Justin

Justin,
5 grams is minimal weight gain in 3 months.......
How often are you feeding the knoblochi?
If conditions are favorable I bet it will eat at least twice a week. Maybe three times......

Growing snakes want to reach adulthood as quick as they can. You will see adults not wanting to eat as much as hatchlings, yearlings and sub adults.........

Adult female Knoblochi will attain 350 to 400 grams....and will reach lengths over 4 feet......

Hello John,

When we first weighed her, she weighed in at 12.8g and now she is 21.3g

So she put on only about 8.5 grams in 3 months.

She is a chow hound though and we have been feeding her and the male a single pinky every 3 days since November with only a few week long breaks as they went into shed a few times.

But other then that she appears to be healthy and has an awesome feeding response.

I will try to post a pic for you guys real soon.

I think I am going to move her up from the smallest of pinkies to the ones that are a few days olders since she is beg enough now that I think she can handle them.

Thanks for your help,

Justin

Sounds like they are doing great Justin........After being around a half a year old now they should be on at least peach fuzzies or fuzzies.....i am sure they will jump to them soon.....

Most of my hatchlings by the time there 2 months old are 2 pinks at a time every 4-6 days. I don't weigh mine but they are definate chow hounds in the early stages of life.

I put my hatchlings down for the winter this year and one that hatched 8-26-10 measured almost 20" long. But I have noticed the grow longer when small and put girth on them at about 3 or 4 yrs old.

It actually depends on the species Jimmy....
I have noticed that Knoblochi and Pyromelana grow long and thin then fill out afterwards while mex mex, thayeri, alterna and greeri put on girth simultaneously with length.......Getula do too for that matter......

I was just posting my observations from Lpk. Sorry I didn't specify species.

Agree, with you again.

What about the fat content of the prey consumed and activity level of the snake? Or even genetics within the species/sub itself? Just a thought.
