Since I took the photo and produced that snake....I guess I can weigh in.
That color phase of house snake used to be the common import (from Tanzania I believe). They were the standard "no name" housesnakes you could buy cheap. They were sometimes sold as "Olive" Housesnakes or "Black" Housesnakes.
Unfortunately, people preferred the red phase snakes and the Green ones went out of vogue and people stopped breeding them. I haven't seen one in a while.

Darn, I really prefer this coloration to the red/brown looking ones. What a disappointment for sure.

Just to clarify, the animal pictured is the dark phase of the Dotted house snake (Boaedon maculatus). Had a few of these myself not long ago.
However, they are nothing compared the elusive green phase of the Cape house snake.
