Mystic????

atldragons Feb 06, 2011 11:03 AM

My friend inherited a few ball morphs which 99% of them are obvious to the eye in what they are. However this one is different. I cannot make out if it is a mystic, reduced mojave, desert, or fire? Any Professional Guesses would be Super appreciated!

*** Head has NO BLUSHINGS, as well as the dorsal and saddles have no blushings.

It does not look like a Mystic to me, nor does it look like a Fire. It looks like some kind of dinker, it is a nice snake.

Appears to be a normal, but does have some softer features, if that makes any sense! Only one way to find out, line breed it!

Not a mystic. I agree with the others who said it looks like a dinker project.

Thanks guys for the quick responses. I have not worked with the dinker lines. I have just been breeding balls for a year and a half now with simple co-dom traits.

What is a decent pairing to achieve a nice snake with the Dinkers?

leo_boy Feb 06, 2011 02:41 PM

Breed it to a normal and see if you get any babies that look like it and breed them back to it to see if its a co-dom. If none of the babies look like it then it is either a nice normal or a recessive trait. Dinking has no guarentee of having a morph and can take a long time, but it is worth it in the end if you find something new.

atldragons Feb 06, 2011 02:48 PM

OUCH! I would hate to breed this beauty to a normal. I know it would be smarter to "PROVE" whether the gene is recessive or dominant and such.... But instead of gambling to genetically analyze the type of gene, I think I would rather take the risk and Prove it out in a dominant way?? NO?

herphatchery Feb 07, 2011 05:02 AM

I agree. I would breed it to a super form, like a super pastel. That way all your babies will be pastels and possibly you will produce a "combo" that will stand out from the normal pastels if your snake has a new genetic trait. I'm doing this with several dinker females this year. Cool snake by the way.

Would a bumblebee be an okay pairing?

atldragons Feb 07, 2011 08:04 AM

On the flip side....

If I bred her to a Pied MALE? Would that be similar to "BREEDING HER TO A NORMAL" and seeing if any babies came out looking like her and they would be 100% HET for Pied?

And if none of them looked like her, breed them back to her?

Or is the ...automatic breeding her to a Pied an EXTRA WAISTED STEP?

**** Is it better to prove her out as having a superform with another co-dom MORE WISE?

adamjeffery Feb 08, 2011 08:23 AM

i wouldnt breed her to a bumblebee. youre trying to prove out a pattern/color mutation. spider may hide the morph if a cross is created. id breed it to a super pastel or normal. the pied wouldnt be bad either as all resulting offspring would be normal in appearance bu hold the gene. albino could make a nice appearance as well.

Don't most het pieds also have noticeable pattern abnormalities. Not saying it is a bad thing. Me personally would either a normal first time a round then every year put it with a different morph to see how it reacts with the different morphs. Also if you reproduce it then you can really start loading the other morphs to it.

atldragons Feb 20, 2011 06:50 PM

Makes sense.... If the actual Visual Pied could warp the genetic appearance POSSIBLY....

Than would a 100% HET Pied be a better choice? Thats the closest to a "Normal" That I have on hand.

KBuckler Feb 06, 2011 07:51 PM

I'll find them in my dvd archives and email them to you. My SUNBALL was an adult Female and i bred her with a normal male.

I'll send you pics of her and the offspring. Contact Amir as well, i'm sure he'll send you pics and tell you if a super has been produced!?

atldragons Feb 06, 2011 03:45 PM

P.s. Did you prove out the parents or the "exact snake" you sold to Amir?

If so, what did you pair With The Sunball?
