late breeding advice/question

boacraze Feb 07, 2011 06:40 AM

I did not reallize my female pastel het clowns and het clowns were over the 1500gram range untill I weighed them in the last week of jan so i went ahead and dropped there evening temps to 76 and days 82 And started putting them together they started copulating right away definate locks. So my question is do you think its just to late To be doing this or should I continue pairings? Or just seperate them and put the temps back up to 86 24/7. Ive never tried to breed balls this late and if the odds are slim i would rather stop and just wait untill next season. ........... thanks to all for youre time for replying. Regards u

just keep breeding them. i know many breeders who will breed their females all year long up until they lay. your not really late anyway. many breeders had just started putting balls together in january anyway.
i like to get an early start but thats just me. most people like to take longer breaks and wait till jan to start placing pairs together. your fine just keep introducing them

I've heard of people breeding all year round. No reason to stop.

I only have a breeding season so my females gain weight before breeding again. Otherwise, I don't even cool my snakes. Well, not on purpose at least. I have to work with roommates and such as far as temp of the house, so if it get's a little cooler, I don't worry about it. I'm just in it for the hobby, not $.

Just keep an eye on your guys and make sure they dont get unhealthy and loose to much weight breeding. There is nothing more they would rather do then breed, that includes breeding to death. If you can get them to eat meals during breeding then its a good thing. All my males are eating during the breedings and I have eggs cooking and on the way. I just started a breeding group last month and it is never to late.
Good luck

Hi,

You're not late at all. Bps are not as seasonal as once thought. I, like many others here, have gotten eggs in every month. In fact, I'm planning on starting introductions with some het pied females that are jut a little lean now in late spring. Go for it!
