Homemade snake rack possible problem?

Kylegep Feb 07, 2011 12:47 PM

I have a melamine snake rack that I build with 10 watt heat tape. The tape is around 91-93. I just started to notice at the bottom of my tubs there is some blackening. I am sure it is from the heat tape, I wanted to know if anyone else has this happening to them? Thanks

Are you using a Thermostat and/or Dimmer?

Yeah a thermostat

Is the black color due to heat or perhaps tape residue or dirt/dust? I'm thinking the latter. Plastic (the type used for storage boxes) melts before it turns black as far as I know. If the boxes are not melted in any way, then the black color must be from dirt.

Ok thank you very much, I feel much better. There is no melting what so ever just a little bit of black residue.
