Albino x Albino?

AllBalledUp Feb 07, 2011 06:21 PM

Just had a breeder for whom I have the highest regard tell me that he recently soured on albino to albino pairings, and that he was throttling back to albino to het match-ups going forward. I saw the issue raised on this forum several months back but it looked like a split decision to me, and I was never clear whether the bad experiences related to defects or poor production. I just acquired one half of the ingredients to albino spinners, and am now wondering where to go next. Appreciate your thoughts.

Albino spider. Now the question is albino pin or pin het albino?

Either...but if I had my choice.....albino pin
Blood line is saturated enough that you shouldn't have to worry about recessive to recessive if that is a concern. Plus the morph possibilities...albino, pins, spiders, spinners, spider albinos, pin albinos, spinner albinos...good mix with good results. I would think because of the dominant genes crossing the recessive genes don't come into a play as much as crossing a recessive into the same.

If he breeds albino spider x albino pin….all hatchlings will be albino. So the results would be….albino, albino spider, albino pin, albino spinner.

I have a friend that used to produce 200 plus albinos a year. He and his partner were trying to get to a place where they weren't producing any hets, but were focussed on breeding albino to albino. They did not expect any decrease in producing viable hatchlings.

I hope this helps.

I have produced albino x albino het. snow and have no problems with viability of the eggs or any deformities of the neonates once hatched.
I wonder if the problems you have heard of were from line or inbreed albinos or just animals with low health quality. There are many possible variables.
