Enlarged vein in mouth?

ChaosCat Sep 27, 2003 08:40 PM

So my old adult male normal corn spit out his food after getting it halfway down for the 2nd time in two weeks.

He'd get it halfway down, then twitch, and spit it out, then lay there and not move much.

I opened his mouth and found an enlarged vein on the left side. Its VERY swollen and purple. To double-check that this wasn't a normal vein, I looked at my other adult male corn's mouth and the vein was not enlarged.

No mouthrot, or any other abnormalties. What could cause this? Could this be why he keeps spitting out his food and acting lethargic?

He is going in to the vet ASAP next week.

thanks,
Cat

Well, it definitely sounds like an emergency run to the vets for sure! It sounds like it is pretty good suspect for him not eating despite his appetite and I don't know what else it could be (I even consulted my new book "The Complete Home Veterinary Guide" by Chris C. Penny, DVM--which has basic info in it---LOVE IT!) Anyhow, probably the best and only thing you can do at this point is take him to the vet as soon as you can.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
